40% reduction in fees
One of our overseas representatives has recently informed us that OHIM have announced a 40% reduction in their official fees for Community Trademarks (CTMs) which took effect from 1 May 2009.
The details:
- Official fees for registration were abolished (yes, no more registration fees – amazing!);
- The basic application fee for a CTM will be 900 Euros (approx.AU$1,600);
- The savings will apply to all new applications filed from 1 May 2009;
- Pending applications not yet registered as at 1 May 2009 will not be subject to a registration fee.
One million and rising
According to the OHIM, the number of international trade marks topped one million this month when Austrian eco-company Grüne Erde registered under the WIPO-administered Madrid system. This number is sure to rise with these recently announced reductions.
